Our 14" Michirondack Mitt End Grain boards have a beautiful checkered pattern of maple and walnut. Why end grain? Any cutting board you use will eventually dull your knives. But with end grain boards, the wood fibers are arranged like a stack of straws. So instead of pressing against a hard surface, the sharp knife edge slips between the fibers, making the cut while protecting the blade of your knife.
End grain boards are extremely durable. With proper care, your cutting board should last a lifetime. Even after heavy usage and many scratches, a little sanding and refinishing will make it look good as new.
