Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (ePub)
Robert Louis Stevenson's classic 1886 novella about the kindly, gentle Doctor Henry Jekyll, who discovers a potion that transforms him into an evil, shrunken parody of a man, Mr. Hyde. At first Jekyll revels in the Hyde persona, for Hyde is entirely free of conventional morality. He does whatever he wants, whenever he wants to. Hyde can do anything, even kill, yet Jekyll has but to take the potion again to be restored to his original form, leaving the authorities in pursuit of a criminal who literally doesn't exist. Later, Jekyll is horrified to discover his potion losing its effectiveness, and then he begins to spontaneously change into Hyde. Annotated edition, and with a new Afterword examining some of the themes brought out in the story.
